A pilot flies it onto the wire and it clamps on, like a bird. Once perched, it uses no flight power.
A coil inside the magnetic field produces current. No cutting, no tapping, no contact. The same induction principle as a wireless phone charger or a grid transformer.

Chargebotic Inc is a San Francisco company building expeditionary field power systems. Its platform, Kestrel, perches on live power lines and harvests their energy through Magline, a contactless induction device, then delivers that power to equipment on the ground. In August 2026 at JIFX 26-4, Camp Roberts, California, the system recharged a battery and powered a Starlink terminal, cameras, and radios from harvested energy. A second product, Spark E, an aircraft that recharges itself on the line, is in development. The company is backed by Founders Inc and NVIDIA Inception.
